Marilyn Monroe's Iconic White Dress Sold For $4.6 Million

The white dress that Marilyn Monroe wore during the movie “The Seven Year Itch” went up for auction recently.   Marilyn wore the dress during a scene where a gust of wind from the subway blows through a grate in the pavement, puffing up her dress and exposing her underwear.

The dress was owned by Debbie Reynolds and the $4.6 million it fetched far exceed what they expected to get.  Debbie had acquired the dress in 1971 when she bought all of Marilyn’s wardrobe from studio 20th Century Fox.

The identities of the buyers are largely unknown, but several are said to have been based in Saudi Arabia and Japan.
