Lea Michele seems to be the perfect role model to younger fans who watch her on Glee, because they could probably relate to her. In an interview with Jay Leno, the actress spoke out about her childhood years when she was bullied for having a ‘funny surname’ named, Sarfati which would get her teased a lot in school.

Those days were so hard for Lea to get through that when she started to audition for films, she decided to drop the last name and call herself just Lea Michele.

“Sarfati. That’s my real last name. I don’t use it a lot because I got ‘Lea So-fatty’, ‘Lea So-farty’ at school.”

Michele whose parents are Jews continued: “So when I was little and I went on my first audition they were like, ‘And may we have your name,’ and I was like, ‘Lea Michele’. And I’ve been Lea Michele ever since. It’s Sephardic, which is Spanish/Jew.”

Lea is currently promoting her new movie, New Year’s Eve starring Zac Efron and Ashton Kutcher.
