There is a Sport and then there is a Sportsperson. Often it is said that sport is bigger within the two. However, it is highly debatable. There are players who are famous due to their sport, and then there are players who have themselves made an entire sport famous. This article is dedicated to one such superstar of the sporting world, ‘Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro’, or just Ronaldo. 

Popularly known as The CR7 (CR being the abbreviation for Cristiano Ronaldo, and 7 being the Jersey number of the player), Ronaldo has been well known as the Ambassador of the Sport Football (Soccer in North American countries of the United States and Canada). 

Born on February 5th ‘1985, in Madeira, Portugal, Ronaldo is a 38-year-old Portuguese Football Player who plays as a Forward in the Team. He also plays for the Saudi Arabic Club Team “Al-Nassr”. His Pace, Accuracy, Physicality, and Hard Work mindset are why he is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time. 

Early Life

Now One of the Richest Athletes of all time, Ronaldo’s childhood was nowhere near the same. His Father Worked as a kit man for the local football team Andorinha, where he started playing at the mere age of just 7. At 8, he was offered a trial at ‘Sporting Lisbon’ and after that, was admitted to their youth academy. After cardiac surgery at 15, he was able to play for the Under 16,17,18, the B Team, and the first team of the club, all in one season.

Club Career

On his debut for the team on 7th October 2002, against Moreirense, he scored a Brace helping the team win the match 3-0. But it was in 2003 when he scored against ‘Manchester United’ and caught the attention of ‘Sir Alex Ferguson’ and other Manchester United Members with his Pace and Dribbling.

He then took a transfer to United (one of the Greatest clubs in world football) for a transfer fee of £12.24 million. His 6 seasons at United brought him glory and success with numerous awards, including his First ‘Ballon d’Or’ in 2008. For Manchester United, he scored 118 goals from 292 appearances.

He then joined the ‘Spanish giants Real Madrid’ in the 2009/10 season for a record deal transfer fee of £80 million. Ronaldo made his ‘La Liga’ debut on 29 August 2009, winning 3–2 and Ronaldo converting a penalty. He was simply a beast at ‘Real Madrid’ with 451 goals in just 438 appearances. While he was at ‘Real Madrid’, he won four UEFA Champions League titles, two ‘La Liga titles’, and two ‘Copa del Rey’ titles. He also won 4 more Ballon d’Or awards, which means five in total.

Transfer to Juventus

In 2018, he got a transfer to Juventus (widely regarded as one of the biggest clubs in Italy) for €100 million. He stated that it was the lack of support shown by club president ‘Florentino Pérez’ behind the reason for his transfer.

During his three years at Juventus, he won consecutive Serie A (The Italian Football League) titles in 2018-19 and 2019-20 as well as the ‘Coppa Italia’ in 2020-21 and two Supercoppa Italiana in 2018 and 2020. He scored 101 goals in 134 appearances in all competitions.

The Tale took a Turn when on August 27th, 2021, Ronaldo made a transfer to Manchester United at the age of 36 for £85 million.  He played with his signature Number 7 after ‘Edinson Cavani’ agreed to switch to the number 21.

Second Debut

Ronaldo made his second debut at ‘Old Trafford’, scoring 2 goals and taking the victory against ‘Newcastle United’ by 4-1. He was again the top scorer with 24 goals in 38 appearances. International Career

Cristiano Ronaldo earned success on his national team as well. He made his debut for the ‘Portuguese National Team’ in 2003. He is the Highest Goal scorer in the history of the nation with over 100 goals.

Ronaldo represented Portugal in international tournaments, including the ‘FIFA World Cup’, ‘UEFA European Championship’, and the ‘UEFA Nations League’. He reached the final of the 2004 ‘European Championship’ with Portugal and the semi-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

In 2016, Ronaldo had a crucial part in Portugal’s historic win at the ‘UEFA European Championship’, scoring three goals in the tournament, including one in the semi-final against Wales.
